hundreds filled san francisco city hall today to honor chris stevens. the bay area native was one of four americans killed in last month's terror attack in libya. rine da ye on his friends and families final good-byes. >> family and friends, diplomats, and a senator, they join together to celebrate the life of chris stevens. his younger sister remembered how she was the target of his pranks. >> i saw the magic through his eyes. >> steven's death last month has become a political issue in the presidential race and an embarrassment for the libyan government. >> i'm sorry. we sent you one of our best diplomats, but not be able to protect you. >> he was interested in the lives of the libyan people.

thomas pickerring recalled a story before stevens became ambassador. >> he was being trailed by the security men who are obviously very spitted tay other tourists. he reached over to one of the men, stole his cameras of the men that were following him. they were so dumbfounded that they had to loof. after a quick conversation, chris continues them to stand down. >> the family insists that stevens death not be politicized, but there are multiple investigations on how it happened, including questions about the security at the consulate. linda ye, cbs 5. we have developing news from the bay tonight. crews are trying to pull this overturned america's cup racing yacht back into port.

the oracle capsized near the san francisco yacht club this afternoon. pieces of the draft drifted miles out to sea. kit shows us what went wrong. kit. >> take a look for yourself. this video was shot by local fan, andrew, and uploaded to youtube. it shows the team oracle moving along the bay at a good clip and then all of a sudden, you start to see it go to the right. that's when the bows start to chop away and before you know it, it falls over. the team has done this maneuver several times before, but this time, kite him off guard. >> the sailors knew something was terribly wrong when the back of the boat. >> the team tactician says the wind was blowing one way at 25 knotts and the current was going in the opposite direction. as they turned, the boat did a

pitch pole. >> that's when the capsizes occur. >> at first, it didn't look that bad, most of the boat was still out of the water and in tact, as crews clung to the upside down poll. the wing, which stood 13 story st tall was under water. the waves snapped off the wing and chopped it into pieces. the hole got thrashed, at least seven miles out to see. >> i'm not sure what went wrong to be honest. we'll have to review the video. >> all of a sudden, it started to go over. did a pitch pole and wound up upside down. >> witnesses saw the flip, including the sailing team. >> there was a big commotion in the club. everyone was riled up.
